Achievements

  • Five Stars: CASR’s high school was named a 5-Star School by the Nevada Department of Education in the 2020-21 school year, and both the elementary school and middle school were named 4-Star Schools in the 2020-21 school year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nevada school ratings have been carried over from the 2018-19 school year.
  • U.S. News & World Report: CASR has been consistently highly ranked in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for the past 4 years. Most recently in the 2022 rankings, CASR was named among the country’s Best High Schools (#275 national ranking out of more than 23,000 public high schools nationally), ranking as the 3rd overall in Nevada and 2nd in the Reno metro area, and. In that same ranking, CASR was named among the best charter high schools in the U.S. (#69 national ranking out of more than 2,830 charter high schools nationally).), including ranking as the top, overall charter high school in the State of Nevada—i.e., #1.
  • Project Lead The Way, Inc. Coral Academy of Science Middle School earned the 2021-22 @PLTWorg Distinguished School for Project Lead The Way, Inc.’s #PLTW Gateway program.
  • For the 2020-21 graduating class, CASR had a cohort graduation rate of 96% (students started at CASR for freshman year and earned HS diploma from CASR or another institution), compared with 85.1% for WCSD and 82.6% for the State, and 96% of the class of 2020-21 had one or more college acceptances.
  • In 2021, 87% of the CASR graduating seniors were awarded the Governor’s Millennium Scholarship ($10,000 each).
  • For fiscal years 2018-19 through 2020-21, CASR has been awarded over $890,363 in College and Career Readiness grants from the Nevada Department of Education.
  • The Washington Post named CASR among the most challenging high schools, ranking 3rd in Nevada (#1 public school) and 190th nationally in 2017.
  • One CASR student was among only 373 students from 39 states receiving a Gold Congressional Medal in 2017.
  • Middle school Lego robotics team won 1st place for most innovative solution in the Northern Nevada First Lego League Championships in 2018.
  • In 2016, a CASR 8th grade student became the second youngest person in the world to create, develop and sell an app on the Apple App Store.
