Clubs

School clubs are not just a great way to have some fun after school. In fact, it has been shown that participating in our free after-school clubs allows students to build social and emotional skills as they interact with others who share similar interests. They also help boost confidence and increase creativity. Coral Academy recognizes and embraces this, offering free after-school clubs at each campus.

Administrators

Murat Kurt, High School Principal

Mr. Kurt has been working at the Coral Academy of Science since 2013. He started as Dean of Academics for the high school section and in 2015 became the High School Campus administrator. Prior to that, he taught Math for 10 years in a PreK-12 private school in Ghana, West Africa. While he was teaching, he was also the Math Department Chair for 6 years. After that, he was promoted to the Academic Coordinator position for the whole school and worked directly under the Executive Director for 2 years. In his former school, he also initiated and ran the International General Certificate of Secondary Education program, administered by the University of Cambridge. Mr. Kurt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.

Breanne Tyska, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Breanne Tyska, a born and raised Nevadan, began her education career in the public school setting working for a variety of K-12 student populations. Coral Academy of Science encompassed the values she was searching for when she decided to work for a charter school and quickly became a member of the family. Mrs. Tyska is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, and a former secondary social studies teacher who now holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. As a teacher, she worked with Title I students, high-risk populations as well as affluent, college-bound students in Northern Nevada. Ms. Tyska’s extensive experience in athletics and student activities has allowed her to pilot a new student-activities program at Coral Academy of Science High School in an effort to facilitate our family partnerships and improve business outreach. She currently serves as Coral Academy of Science High School’s Athletic Administrator and Dean of Students.

Linda Dawson, Founding Teacher, Mentor and Admin Assistant

Twenty-two years ago, two UNR doctoral graduate students started with a dream of beginning a science/math college prep school. Ms. Dawson was fortunate enough to be included in that dream. It has been a joy to watch the school and students blossom into even more than could have ever been imagined. Ms. Dawson taught Tenth and twelfth-grade English, psychology, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies, World History, and Advanced Placement World History and American History. Ms. Dawson retired for about a month four years ago. She realized Coral was too important to her to retire. She rejoined the Coral High School staff. This time she joined as an assistant to the administration and the mentor teacher. She loves what she’s doing and plans to continue for the foreseeable future!
