High School Reopening Resources

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello Coral HS Families!

Thank you for your continued patience and resilience with the many changes we experience in our lives due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

This section provides general considerations regarding the reopening of school buildings and facilities to staff, students, and the public. Effective school re-opening will require diligent efforts to communicate with families, guardians, educators, and community members. The top priority is the health and safety of our students and school personnel. CAS-HS will provide clear guidance on steps the school is taking, including protocols for self-isolation for individuals who are sick or who have come in contact with someone who is sick.

The 2021-2022 school year will begin with in-person instruction.. CAS-HS will prioritize providing face-to-face instruction as public health conditions allow, instituting physical distancing and other preventative practices to keep students and staff healthy. Please remember that we will not hesitate to make changes to our plans and switch between learning models as additional guidance or requirements are released regarding COVID-19. The health and safety of our students and staff are of paramount importance. We will keep you posted as we receive more information. We always appreciate the support of our CAS-HS families and staff. We especially appreciate your help right now as we work through the many details for providing the best learning possible for our children during this most unusual time.

If you selected the full-time Distance Learning model (only available at beginning of semester; check criteria necessary with Mr. Kurt) please make sure you are following the schedule for attendance as well as educational purposes. If you would like to request a change of learning model for any reason, please contact Murat Kurt (mkurt@coralacademy.org). The final date to change your learning model is at 3:30 PM two weeks after each semester begins.

Building Safety & Operations

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, everyone who is on-site is expected to wear a face cover, maintain social distancing, and maintain good hygiene by washing hands and using provided hand sanitizer on a regular basis.  Students will be encouraged to perform the district’s self-screening process at home, and a tool can be found in our parent orientation and will soon be on the website, or you can go to cdc.com/self-screening.

Attendance

During this school year, we are still monitoring attendance. Students are responsible for being “present” during their scheduled classes and satisfying the criteria proposed by the WCSD and Nevada Department of Education. Coral Academy of Science High School believes it is the students’ responsibility to communicate with their teachers regarding absences, and requesting make-up work during school hours.

A Hybrid Learning Model is one that combines elements of both In-Person Learning and Distance Learning in the CAS-HS context; we are referring to a learning model in which students are receiving in-person instruction for part of the school week and are receiving Distance Learning instruction for part of the school week

  • While in school, all provisions in In-person learning (e.g. social distancing use of PPE etc.) remain the same.
  • While on distance all provisions of Distance Learning (e.g. certified teachers & expectations) remain the same.

Our model approach is to ensure adequate resources, effective social-distancing practices, and fair and equitable access to education for all of our students. Concurrently, our academic plan reflects the purpose and mission statement of our school.

GROUP A: MONDAY & WEDNESDAY
GROUP B: TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS
FRIDAYS: ALL STUDENTS

Distance learners:

Students who chose the Distance Learning Model will be expected to operate on the schedule given for attendance and educational purposes. Teachers will be delivering materials on Fridays. Throughout the following week, students and teachers will meet online to review materials and assess student understanding. Teachers will be delivering a class syllabus and calendar for your reference. Students will be expected to adhere to it as we will enforce our late work policy and expect students to meet the demands the teachers have to meet during this time.

FOR ALL LEARNERS

  • Google Classroom will be the academic platform for all students
  • In-person instruction will primarily be supplemental learning
  • All assignments will be turned in through google classroom
  • All grades and attendance will be through Infinite Campus
  • Schedules will be cohesive with our academic learning model
