About us
Coral Academy of Science South Elementary School serves approximately 500 scholars in grades K-5. As a college preparatory school, we offer challenging and engaging curricula to our students, taught by highly qualified teachers. All students also enjoy weekly enrichment classes in Physical Education, World Cultures, Art, Computer Science, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). An extension of the school day is offered to every scholar with free after-school tutoring and clubs. Community partnerships, family engagement, and academic competitions are implemented regularly at Coral Academy. As a free school of choice, the partnership between parents, teachers, and administration provides a unique collaboration to foster every child’s needs while enriching the whole student. On-site before and after-school child care is also available for all enrolled students. Childcare providers are not sponsored by the Coral Academy of Science, so they require a monetary commitment. We are excited to offer a unique and rigorous education to your child. Contact us for a tour to see how our approach to education can change your child’s educational career!

School clubs are not just a great way to have some fun after school. In fact, it has been shown that participating in our free after-school clubs allows students to build social and emotional skills as they interact with others who share similar interests. They also help boost confidence and increase creativity. Coral Academy recognizes and embraces this, offering free after-school clubs at each campus.
Our clubs vary from year to year based on student interest. Below you will find some examples of potential clubs offered at our location.

Sydney Peters, Dean of Students
Mrs. Peters began her career in education as a classroom teacher in Washoe County School District, teaching kindergarten through 4th grade at several schools in the Reno area. She later served as a director of a private school and has over a decade of experience developing innovative, hands-on curriculum for students from kindergarten through high school.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Nevada, Reno, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from UNR, and an MBA from Western Governors University. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Educational Leadership, further deepening her expertise in school leadership and student success.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Peters has demonstrated exceptional skill in building strong relationships with students, families, and staff, while implementing effective strategies that foster a positive school culture, support academic excellence, and nurture personal growth.
As Dean of Students at Coral Academy of Science ES-South, she is passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students are empowered to thrive.
Suni Slaten, Head Registrar & Admin Assistant
Mrs. Slaten began her Coral Academy of Science career as a parent volunteer and substitute teacher. Having her own students attend allowed her to dedicate her time not only to own children’s classrooms, but to volunteer throughout the campuses.
In 2013 she made the transition to full-time employee as Registrar for the elementary location (now ES North). Mrs. Slaten began her position as Head Registrar in 2017 as our Coral community grew. Her role now involves facilitating enrollment at all CAS locations. Although this position sometimes takes her to other locations within the Coral community, Mrs. Slaten loves her placement here at ES South. Being able to make connections with our exceptional Coral Academy scholars is, by far, the favorite part of her day!
